If you are a bookworm, sometimes it's beneficial to mix it up and gamify your reading. I used to chase metrics of how many books I could read, but the problem was that I didn't remember many of these books. For the past couple of years, I have prioritised deep reading of good books over quantity.
One of the ways I livened up my reading this year was to read a classic book every month. Currently, Victorian fiction is my love. Challenging yourself to read outside your comfort zone will considerably improve your writing and mental health.
For this reason, I am setting myself another challenge for 2025 that I need your help with. As well as continuing with a classic a month, I want to read a follower's suggestion. So my question is, if you could recommend one book to me, what would it be? Hit reply and tell me.
If you would like to join me on this journey I would love to have you. Here are three other challenges I have done in previous years you might like to try.
Read the A-Z of books. It is as simple as it sounds: read a book for every alphabet letter. I used the authors' names and book titles to make this easier. You could make it more difficult by choosing just one of these. If you need a recommendation for Z, then it would have to be Z For Zachariah. It is a classic but a brilliant read.
Challenge yourself to read ten new authors every year. The problem with this challenge is that if you like the authors you read, you end up with an extensive TBR of their other books.
If you prefer a longer challenge, a challenge I have been working my way through for almost ten years, is the 100 Great British Reads list. It is a mixed list, but by the end of 2025, I will have read every book. You can find the list here.
If you are not a reader, then I would suggest starting small. Set yourself achievable goals. Spending just 45 minutes reading a day is 182 hours per year (the length of an entire college semester). Imagine how many books you could enjoy in that amount of time. The possibilities are endless!
I can't wait to read your suggestions.
If you enjoy this email, please share it so more readers can find it.
Until next week stay safe
