Cal Newport in one of his latest podcasts talked about the benefits of doing an autumn review, rather than a yearly one. Who sticks to New Year’s resolutions anyway?
For the past week, I have been on holiday with the children, and when you unplug, it is a good time to think and reflect. This led me to change some of my newsletters to offer more.
For example, I have opened up chat on this newsletter. Mainly because ‘Notes’ feels increasingly like social media, and this gives me a place to chat with people who follow me. I miss that about Substack.
I have also opened the chat up for Murder Mayhem UK to share news, history articles I’ve found interesting, and books I am currently reading, all in the history and crime genre.
With regards to Murder Mayhem UK, I need your help. This month, I am running a promotion to join my paid tier for just £1.50. As a paid member, you get access to my books in PDF form and access to my back catalogue of some 400 articles. But, although there has been uptake, it has not been as good as I had hoped.
My question to you is, why do you not pay for newsletters, what puts you off? In contrast to that, what makes you sign up for a newsletter?
Any insights you can provide in the comments will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Until next week.
Remember: Read to learn. Read to escape. Read to smile.
