🧑🎤 How to Beat Procrastination Failures
Publish your first piece of writing with this exclusive offer for subscribers.
I ran a mentoring business for new writers a couple of years ago. Through it, I met some very talented people who have gone on to achieve tremendous things, not my doing. Two that stand out for me are Tommy Ueland, who just published his first novel and Froyle Davies, who has one of the best YouTube channels I know.
One of the writers who stood out was a man I worked with for many months on a fantasy novel he was writing; we will call him Frank. Frank had written a complex world where his main characters were female. The book was brilliant, but Frank was stuck in a cycle of procrastination.
This is a cycle I see so many writers get in, whether it is writing a novel or an article. Frank and I worked on his novel and polished it to where he could have started querying publishers with it. But Frank was not ready, so he went to another service that evaluated his manuscript after me.
Each time he made changes and developed his story, he kept developing frightened or reluctant to take the next step towards releasing his work to the public. For all I know, he is still working on it and has never taken the next step, which is a real shame because the book is brilliant.
It is the same for new authors when they start writing articles for Medium or other platforms; some become physically stuck at pressing the publish button. Your first articles will suck; there is no getting away from it. I read some of my older posts and shivered at the garbage I wrote.
But here is the thing once I hit publish the first time, it became easier every time and slowly, with the support of my readers, I improved. If I had never taken that giant leap of sending the work out into the world, I would still be sat with notebooks full of information with nowhere to go.
I never underestimate how hard it is to hit publish, but you will never know where your writing will go if you do not.
So here is my offer to you, if you have never published anything on the internet, I will read over your draft and give you feedback, and then you have to promise to hit publish. It doesn't matter what topic the article is about, but no more than 3000 words.
I don't want any money for it; I will do it for FREE as long as you promise to publish afterwards; sure, if you choose to buy me a coffee, then I never say no. If the article is true crime and researched well, I will add you to my crime magazine as a guest writer.
So if you have always wanted to write, or you know someone who has always wanted to write, send them this email and let them take advantage of the offer. Let's get your work out there.
Until next week stay safe
Sam 😊
