This week, I thought this might be a nice way to grow my newsletter and help Indie author, so I put this message onto Threads.
What shocked me was the number of authors that didn’t include all the information I requested. Some even just sent me a link so I could find the information myself. I wasn’t charging a penny for this, but they expected me to find the information.
This started me thinking about how to market books. You have to be ready to put the extra effort in. How long would it have taken to copy the synopsis for their book into an email so it would be advertised?
I know we can not always be on top of our game, but I suggest that if you haven’t got the time, don’t reply until you have. If you want to sell books, you have to be ready to market those books, and that is not always easy.
There are several ways you can advertise your book. You can share behind-the-scenes information, perhaps passages that didn’t make the book but are still relevant.
Your readers might be interested in a bonus chapter that they can apply for once they buy the book. You could have other memorabilia made, such as mugs and bookmarks, for which those who purchase the book can go into a draw.
Why not ask your readers to vote on which book cover they like best? Or speak to book bloggers and arrange a virtual book tour. All of these build pre-orders for the book, which helps with sales.
Once the book is published, link it everywhere, even in your email signature and keep sharing it. I would say that even if your book is a year old, you should be sharing one post a week on it.
Once you have other books published, ensure you link to the rest of your books at the back of the current one. How many times as readers have we loved a book from an author and worked through their collection? This could happen to you.
If you would like your book included in my bookshop, please take advantage of the offer above, but please include all the information.
If you enjoy this email, please share it so more readers can find it.
Until next week stay safe
Sam 😊
