Maybe the title of "goals" is a little misleading because I like to think of these as things I want to achieve in the next year. Goals seem like too much of a commitment, a little like New Year's Resolutions.
Of course, my main goal is to keep producing content for my three newsletters: The Book Chronicles, Murder Mayhem UK and this newsletter. As with this year, I plan to post once a week to each of them. But I have other goals (for want of a better word) that I want to achieve in 2025, much more personal than my writing.
An eBook a Quarter
I hinted at this in my last newsletter, but I plan to publish a new eBook every quarter in 2025. These will all be either Crime or History, as these are my main writing projects.
When I initially thought about this, I aimed to produce a book a month, but with thought, that is not achievable. If you do not set achievable goals, you soon lose momentum when you miss one of your milestones. Once a quarter is a far more manageable expectation. The easier you achieve, the more momentum you gain.
The books will be published in March, July, September and December. The first, Warriors of War, is a working title that explores the stories of the heroes of World War II that you may not have heard of.
Those paid subscribers for Murder Mayhem UK will get each book FREE in PDF form. If you are interested, here is the offer for a reduced subscription fee. Hurry, because it closes at the end of the year.
Reading Challenges
I did this in 2024 and enjoyed it so much that I am doing it again in 2025. Every month, I read one classic novel. This year, I have enjoyed Tess of the D'Urbervilles, Frankenstein and The Woman in White, to name a few.
I am combining this reading with my book club next year. You can follow this on The Book Chronicles or through Fable, a brilliant application for bookworms.
Our reading list for 2025 is:
Jan - Brideshead Revisited, Evelyn Waugh
Feb - Burmese Days, George Orwell
March - East of Eden, John Steinbeck
April - The Mill on the Floss, George Elliot
May - Persuasion, Jane Austin
June - Villette, Charlotte Brontë
July - The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists, Robert Tressell
Aug - Katherine, Anya Seton
Sept - The Lost World, Arthur Conan Doyle
Oct - The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, Anne Bronte
Nov - Emma, Jane Austin
Dec - Oliver Twist, Charles Dickens
In addition to reading a classic a month, I want to read a book that was recommended to me every month. These books come in a range of formats, some physical books and others in audiobook form.
These include books such as The Heart's Invisible Fury, The Goldfinch and The Betrayal of Thomas True.
Promote an Indie Author Every Month
The last project I have planned is to spend every month promoting an Indie author's book. This will include graphics on my socials, full reviews of the books, and an addition to my online bookshop.
I still have a few slots left for some months, so if you want to take advantage of this and have a book released next year, reply to this email.
What are your goals for 2025? Let me know in the comments.
Happy New Year, All.
Sam
