Whether you are a new writer or have been doing it for years, we all chase the elusive viral article.
But what is a viral article?
Mainly, it is down to your ambition as to what you would consider a viral article, but it is generally considered over 1000 interactions.
A large part of getting a viral article is luck. Yes, I said it: luck plays a part in writing. However, there are some techniques you can use to increase the chance of going viral.
Your headline should attract readers while telling them about the post. Avoid clickbait headlines that don’t deliver on what you promise.
The subtitle should be in regular case and further explain the post. Again, you can create intrigue or ask a question.
All articles should have an image. Images help advertise a post and draw the reader. They should also be copyright-free. You can find an article below to help you achieve this.
Many readers only read the start of the article. For this reason, a killer first sentence is a must. Ensure you pull the readers in. Make the readers want to read the rest of your article.
Once you have encouraged the reader to start your article, keep them reading. You do this by providing the reader with engaging content. Provide a different angle on an old topic or write about something new.
White space means the gaps between your work. Many of us are viewing articles on a mobile. White space is essential to aid us with our reading. Aim for paragraphs no more than five sentences long. Break up your text with quotes and pictures where appropriate.
Edit by removing the excess words and running your piece through a grammar checker. Finally, read the article out loud to see if it flows.
If you do all this, you may get a viral article. You can increase your chances again by sharing your work on social media.
When people take the time to respond to your articles, have the decency to read their comments. At the least, clap or like what they have said. If you can comment back, this will help build your tribe quicker.
If you enjoy this email, please share it so more readers can find it. You can find my reading journey on Ko-Fi.
Until next week, stay safe
