💰 Writing Advice that Doesn't Cost a Fortune
There are so many resources you can access as a writer that do not cost you anything. Here are some of my best selections for applications.
When I started this newsletter, my principal aim was to provide advice that doesn't cost anything. Beyond that, recommending applications that cost nothing is also a factor I always consider.Â
As with any writing advice, there are always a wealth of other writers that will recommend applications that cost a fortune. I have lost count of how many videos I have watched, only to check out the recommended application and see it costs more than a family meal.Â
Monthly, I pay for three subscriptions my first is Grammarly; the second is Todoist and the third is Medium. Except for Medium, all of these applications have free versions that are adequate for most writers; I pay because of the quantity of information I process.Â
So here is my list of five applications I use every day on my gadgets to help me write.Â
Todoist - is a brilliant to-do list that provides excellent text recognition, which makes inputting tasks simple. It also syncs across all my devices without a problem. I subscribe only to get more projects; if you limit yourself to 5, the free version is fantastic.
Note Taking:Â For quick capture and storing of most information, I used Apple Notes, which is entirely free and comes with some surprising new features which make it as good as any system. Look out for the article this week which goes into more information about that.
Writing:Â Obsidian all my research and writing are done in Obsidian which is completely free. Check out the articles on this newsletter page for more details.Â
Read Later App:Â ReaderView is a simple, clean application that lets you store articles for reading later. Although not as popular as Pocket and Instapaper, it has all the functionality and is free. Incidentally, if ReaderView is not for you, did you know you can send articles to your Kindle for reading later? Let me know if this is something you would like me to show you.Â
Referencing:Â Zotero is the most amazing unknown app. With Zotero, you can store all your references straight in a database with one click from your browser. You can store information in folders; with one click, the application with publish a biography for you.Â
These are suitable applications without the price tag of some of their more well-known peers. They are not spoken about so much because when an application doesn't charge, it can not pay influencers to advertise for them. Â
If you want more details on any of these applications or how I use them, ask the questions in chat.Â
If you enjoy this email, please share it so that more readers can find it.Â
Until next week stay safe
Sam 😊
