🤓 You Have to be a Storyteller
No matter what you write learn to tell stories to engage readers.
How many courses are offered by big names that don’t deliver on your writing content?
I was attracted to big names like Tim Denning and Tom Kueglar and their writing course when I started writing. These guys know their stuff but only know how to write one type of article.
How do you change this if you want to write about crime and history? What they teach is only 25% useful to you. However, one skill they all talk about relates to all types of writing. You have to tell stories.
Now I have been flippant over the last couple of weeks, saying to be an expert in crime, I need to join the police or murder someone. Of course, it isn’t true, but it gets a few laughs. If you were wondering, I would never join the police. 🤣
What I always do is tell a story.
Not my story, but the story of the victims and sometimes of the murderer involved with the crime. I tell their story, so for me, storytelling is simple.
You might write about food but again, tell a story. Where did you find the recipe? Did you cook it for a loved one? Is there a funny story related to the first time you cooked it?
Regardless tell a story in the opening part of your article, or you will lose readers.
A story helps readers relate to your content and makes them want to learn more.
Storytelling is the most essential part of your writing, and over the next month, I will show you some of the skills you need for this.
Look out for these articles every Thursday on
our website, or catch the links in Sunday Chat if you want to be notified when these are published; then follow me on Threads for this and much more.
I look forward to teaching you what I have learned over the last ten years of writing.
