I don’t believe in counting how many books you read every year. I think it puts unnecessary pressure on a hobby that should be entirely about enjoyment. However, I do believe in setting challenges for myself every year to make my reading even more rewarding.
Every year, I challenge myself to read ten new authors. This has been a fun way to discover fresh voices, and I often go on to read an author’s entire back catalogue. Another challenge I do frequently, though not every year, is the A–Z reading challenge, where I read a book corresponding to every letter of the alphabet. Dealing with the more challenging letters has been a great way to experiment with my choices.
These activities have added a great deal of value to my reading, which is why I want to give you all the opportunity to download my reading challenges template for next year. Inside, you will find ten yearly challenges to set yourself, alongside fun monthly prompts to help you pick your next read. It also comes complete with a tracker, should you wish to use it.
If you know of any other reading challenges, please drop them in the comments below so I can add them to the list!
Until next time: Find the time, find the words, find the way.
Sam 😊
