Sharpen Your Craft By Reading More
Join my book club.
Reading is as much a part of my life as writing.
Watch any famous writer talk about their craft, and they will tell you just how important reading is. Whether you are Ryan Holiday, who uses everything he reads as stories in the books he writes, or Joan Didion, who used to deconstruct sentences from her favourite authors to see how they are crafted, reading is the most valuable resource a writer can have.
This conviction, that the best way to become a better writer is to be a dedicated reader, is what inspired me to start my book club next year.
Once a month, we will read a book. I will post articles of my thoughts and analysis on it. You can also join the conversation daily in my Facebook group or in the chat on Substack, whichever you prefer.
There are some rules for the books I have picked. Firstly, everyone is around the 300-page mark, and secondly, they are considered literary fiction. They will be easy to read but will also offer something extra. I have also included a mix of genres, so there is something for everyone.
The Book Chronicles Newsletter is where the magic happens. Head over there now and subscribe! The club is completely FREE to join, and I’ll announce the 12 book picks next month.
I really hope some of you join me there because I cannot wait to share two of my favourite hobbies with you: reading and talking about books.
Until next Sunday: Find the time, find the words, find the way.
Sam 😊
You don’t have to burn books to destroy culture. Just get people to stop reading them. - Ray Bradbury
