Scrolling through TikTok the other day, I came across content from Thoren Bradley, where he was talking about the sponsorship deals he had gotten. This started me thinking.
Creators and influencers make a fortune recommending applications to you to use. Whether you are writing a novel, storing your second brain or editing videos, there is an influx of people recommending applications.
Most of them are paid to recommend the applications, which often makes me wonder what they really use. I hope most of them are advertising products they use, but I am unsure.
It is important to me that this does not become one of those newsletters, so you will see that I mainly suggest free products. I use the paid version for some of them; however, I have used the free copy sufficiently before paying money.
This is why you will see a new feature this year: my weekly three. I am excited to add this as every week; I recommend an application or article by a writer that I think will help you progress with your writing career.
This is generally stuff that I use or have read. That is where I want to grow the community. If you have something that you would recommend, then hit reply to any of these articles and let me know.
For writers who want to promote their work, I suggest you check out my other newsletter, The Book Chronicles, where I have opened up submissions to anyone who would like to tell us about their book.
My main goal for 2024 is to put the community back in writing. Platforms lately have been encouraging the opposite, and I believe if we all work together, there are enough readers to go around.
Next week, I will start showing you how you can build a second brain, paying nothing for applications.
If you enjoy this email, please share it so more readers can find it.
Until next week stay safe
Sam 😊
Weekly Three
Fable - I am a massive bookworm. I am not sure that is a secret. Well, imagine my joy when I found a social media platform for readers. Think of this as the love child of Goodreads and Twitter. You can also set up your book clubs here and read with others. I love everything about this application, especially how many readers I have connected with. If you do join, please look up my profile, Sam H Arnold, so that we can share our reading journey this year.
Austin Kleon's Newsletter - If you have read any of his excellent books, Steal like an Artist, Show Your Work and Keep Going then he needs no introduction. He also has a brilliant newsletter. Every week he shares 10 things that are worth sharing. This is a curated list of a range of media you might want to check out.
Benjamin McEvoy YouTube - McEvoy has a passion for reading the classics beyond anyone I have previously watched. On his channel, he talks about classic literature and uses his experience to advise where to start reading and how to read deeply. It was his channel that reignited my love of not only classics but of reading.
Quote of the week
Human beings have been recording their knowledge in book form for more than 5,000 years,” he says. “That means that whatever you’re working on right now, whatever problem you’re struggling with, is probably addressed in some book somewhere by someone a lot smarter than you. - James White
